The Limits of Self Care

And so I realised
That it’s okay to be gentle
But not too protective;
Of myself or others.

That it’s okay to rest
But not to slump
In the swamplands
For too long.

That self-care is good
But there’s a limit
Beyond which
Resides painful constraint.

That to sleep is good
But not for too long
To eat well is advised
But not more than my fill.

And to be alone
But not too much
For beyond that
Resides who knows

Madness perhaps
Isolation for sure
Loss of self even;
If it endures.
